We strongly believe that canoeing and/or kayaking are healthy, wholesome activities that could benefit from more exposure. This canoe race format was designed with the intent to encourage more people into the paddle-sport environment, especially women, children, and seniors. By racing in a 4-person canoe, less experienced paddlers can benefit from the skills of the more elite paddlers. Although the C4 canoe has been around for many years, recently there has been a new wave of interest by elite canoe racers. So, with our intent to encourage more diverse individuals into participating, this “equalizer” format gives bonus points for each of those age/gender categories that will be used in calculating the prize money for each team.
All teams will begin and end in front of The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort along the Delaware River which goes through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.; a gem of the Pocono Mountains. Following the race, a BBQ lunch will be provided to all the racers. Non-racers can also purchase a meal.
For 2015, our first annual race 20% of this event's profit will be donated to the local organization Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center (PWREC) run by Katie Uhler.
The Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort

Evoking an atmosphere of old world charm, our 99 guest rooms and suites balance comfort, convenience and history. All offer views of our famous golf course, the Delaware River or our expansive grounds. Because the property was built in 1911, no two rooms are alike.
